IEC Food Co-op holds District Meeting in Treynor
Every year, the IEC Food Co-op holds district meetings across the state. At these meetings, local school food service and nutrition professionals meet to discuss hot topics in the industry that influence their daily operations and way of doing things. Earlier in October, the IEC held the SW Iowa meeting in Treynor.
Jnelle and her staff from Treynor Community Schools did a great job hosting the meeting and made this day a real success! In all, 13 schools and 39 people were in attendance.
Brad Roth (Janitorial Specialist, Martin Bros.) started the afternoon meeting by showing how to clean and sanitize tables properly – an issue of great importance as the cold and flu season is approaching at full force.
Patti Delger, RD, LD, from the State Department of Education, co-director Team Nutrition, talked about the Healthy Kids Act and Renee Steffens, RD, LD, from Martin Bros. discussed how important it is for schools to be active in maintaining an image of health and nutrition and to set that example not only for their students but for the community as well. Afterwards, 20 food vendors were available to answer any specific product questions and sample various lines.
This is the IEC Food Co-op’s second annual SW Iowa meeting. Next year’s will be held in Atlantic.
